plyometric jumps
There are two options in the Plyometrics mode:
- LAND ON MAT - If this option is selected, the athlete will jump onto the mat and land back on the mat. The display will read contact time (left number) with the mat and also will read the vertical (right number). The athlete must stay on the mat until the operator writes down the results shown on the display. When the athlete steps off the mat, the display will read "JUST JUMP". The next athlete may now begin their jump.
LAND ON MAT sequence
- Display reads :
- athlete jumps onto the mat
- athlete jumps
- athlete lands back on the mat
- Display reads:
- athlete remains on mat while operator records results
- LAND OFF MAT - If this option is selected, the athlete will jump onto the mat, jump and land off the mat. The display will read contact time with the mat. The displayed time will be to the nearest one hundredth of a second. The next athlete may now jump.
LAND OFF MAT sequence
- Display reads :
- athlete jumps onto the mat
- athlete jumps
- athlete lands off the mat
- Display reads:
Land On vs. Land Off
These are standard Plyometric jump measurements. The difference between the two options is subtle. In the "Land On" measurement the athlete is focusing on reducing ground time as well as jumping as high as possible. In the "Land Off" action the the focus is not on jump height. The subject is just trying to reduce ground time. They are trying to get off the ground (mat) as soon as possible.
In summary, again, it should be emphasized that coaches, trainers and athletes (or possibly someone going through a rehab. program) now has an accurate tool for measuring plyometric jumps which provides immediate feedback. Immediate feedback on progress has been shown to be a great motivator.
